ACCESSABILITY

Helping everyone enjoy the Lynx experience

ACCESSIBILITY

At Aberdeen Lynx we are committed to making our matches as accessible and welcoming as possible. As a registered charity run by volunteers, we want everyone to have the opportunity to enjoy live ice hockey, regardless of disability or access requirements.

We recognise that every supporter has different needs. Whether you require an Essential Companion ticket, wheelchair-accessible seating or another reasonable adjustment, our team will do everything we reasonably can to help you enjoy your visit to the Linx Ice Arena.

The information below explains our accessibility ticketing arrangements and how to book if you require an Essential Companion ticket or a wheelchair-accessible space.

Essential Companion tickets are available at a reduced rate for those accompanying an adult supporter purchasing either a season ticket or a game night ticket. Wheelchair-accessible spaces are also available for supporters who use wheelchairs or those with limited mobility who are unable to access seating in the main stands. As these spaces are limited due to the layout of the venue, we recommend booking in advance wherever possible.

To ensure our accessibility tickets are allocated fairly and consistently, we have partnered with Access Card, operated by Nimbus Disability Consultancy, to verify eligibility for accessible ticket purchases.

Our commitment to supporting all of our fans remains unchanged. If you have any questions or require assistance, our team will be happy to help.

Access Card Scheme

We are pleased to be working with Nimbus Disability, utilising their Access Card Scheme and Digital Access Pass system to provide a simple and consistent way for supporters to demonstrate eligibility for an essential companion (+1) ticket.

By partnering with Nimbus Disability, a leading authority on accessible ticketing run by and for disabled people, we can ensure that essential companion tickets are allocated fairly, consistently, and securely.

Supporters can apply for a free Digital Access Pass specifically for use with the Aberdeen Lynx or choose to apply for a full Access Card if broader recognition across other partnered venues is required.

What Is the Access Card?

The Access Card is a universal way of communicating access requirements to partnered venues.
A full Access Card costs £15 for three years. Supporters with a free Digital Access Pass can choose to upgrade if they want wider use at other venues.

What Is a FREE Digital Access Pass?

You can use your Digital Access Pass ID Number to book essential companion tickets for Aberdeen Lynx tickets.

You can submit a free application for a Digital Access Pass via Nimbus at https://app.accesscard.online/apply/aberdeen-lynx

As part of the application, you will provide evidence and a brief explanation of your access needs. Nimbus will assess this information and, where appropriate, assign the +1 symbol, which indicates eligibility for a carer/ essential companion.

Once approved, your Digital Access Pass is valid for three years and includes a digital ID number.

How to Apply

To apply for your Aberdeen Lynx Digital Access Pass, please visit https://app.accesscard.online/apply/aberdeen-lynx

You will be directed to a simple application form where you can upload validating evidence and provide a short description of why you require an essential companion.

If you wish to apply for an Access Card you can select this option when filling out the form.

Already Have an Access Card

If you already have a valid Nimbus Access Card showing the +1 symbol, or you have an Aberdeen Lynx Digital Access Pass, you do not need to apply again.

Verifying Eligibility

All applicants, including season ticket holders and game night ticket holders must be able to present proof of their access requirement:

  • An Access Card with the +1 symbol, or
  • An Aberdeen Lynx Digital Access Pass showing the +1 entitlement

This evidence is required to qualify for  an essential companion discounted ticket. The adult ticket holder must be present for the Essential Companion’s ticket to be valid. The role of an essential companion is to support their the adult ticket holder which includes predominantly remaining with them throughout the game and period breaks.

Essential Companion season tickets cannot be resold or transferred if the access customer who requires the +1 is not attending a game– they can however be upgraded to a full adult/child ticket by paying the difference at the door on game night.

In line with our booking terms and conditions, all children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over.

If you’d like to request an Essential Companion ticket for a child under 16, please contact our team first at tickets@aberdeenlynx.com. You will need to provide a valid Access Card or Digital Access Pass showing the +1 symbol, which confirms that your child requires additional support beyond normal parental responsibility. You will then be advised on how to confirm your booking.

Season Ticket Renewal for Essential Companions

Have your Nimbus Access Card ID that shows the +1 symbol, or have an Aberdeen Lynx Digital Access Pass (DAP) ID to hand.

When the season ticket renewal window opens, select the seat(s) and the applicable ticket categories you wish to purchase for this season, e.g. adult and an Essential Companion.

Once added to your basket you will be asked to enter your name and Access Card/ Digital Access Pass ID for automatic validation with Nimbus.

Please note that you may be asked to show your Access Card/ Digital Access Pass ID at each game night upon your tickets being scanned. Remember, the full price ticket holder must be present for the Essential Companion’s ticket to be valid.

Children under the age of 16 whose support needs are greater than the care a parent or guardian would ordinarily be expected to provide may be eligible for an Essential Companion ticket. This is an additional ticket and must be booked alongside both a child’s ticket and an accompanying adult or guardian’s ticket.

To book, first add the child’s ticket and the adult or guardian’s ticket to your basket, then select the Essential Companion ticket. You’ll need a valid Access Card or Digital Access Pass displaying the +1 symbol.

If you have any questions, please contact our team at tickets@aberdeenlynx.com.

FAQ

Do you offer wheelchair-accessible seating?

Yes. Wheelchair-accessible spaces are available for supporters who use a wheelchair or those with limited mobility who are unable to access seating in the main stands. Due to the layout of the Linx Ice Arena, availability is limited and advance booking is required.

Is accessible parking available?

A limited number of accessible parking bays are available at the Linx Ice Arena.

Please note that, due to the ongoing works at Aberdeen Beach, access to the arena is currently via the rear car park. This means there is a longer walk to the main entrance than usual. We recommend allowing extra time for your journey, particularly if you have mobility requirements.

Parking is managed by Sport Aberdeen, and accessible parking spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

This is factual, sets expectations, and avoids promising something the club doesn’t control. It also shows you’re thinking about accessibility beyond just the arena itself

Is the arena suitable for supporters with sensory sensitivities?

Ice hockey is a fast-paced and exciting sport, and the match-night experience can be loud and energetic.

Supporters should be aware that a game night may include:

  • Music played before, during and after the game.
  • Public address announcements.
  • Crowd cheering and celebrations.
  • Supporters using drums throughout the game, which can be heard across much of the arena.
  • Whistles and the sound of the puck striking the boards and protective glass.
  • Flashing or coloured lighting during player introductions and goal celebrations.

If you have any concerns before attending, please contact us and we’ll be happy to discuss your visit and help you plan your game-night experience.

Are accessible toilets available?

Yes. Accessible toilet facilities are available within the Linx Ice Arena.

The accessible toilets are located adjacent to the main reception area within the skate hire section of the arena. If you require assistance locating them, please speak to a member of the arena staff or an Aberdeen Lynx volunteer, who will be happy to help.

I have a hidden disability. Can you help?

Yes. We recognise that not all disabilities are visible. Whether your disability is visible or non-visible, our volunteers will do their best to support you and help you enjoy your visit.

Is the arena cold?

Yes. The Linx Ice Arena is maintained at a low temperature to preserve the ice surface, so we recommend dressing warmly.

What if I need a reasonable adjustment that isn't listed?

We understand that everyone’s access requirements are different. If you require a reasonable adjustment that isn’t covered on this page, please contact us before purchasing your tickets. We will consider all requests individually, taking into account the facilities available at the Linx Ice Arena, operational requirements and the safety of all supporters.

Why do Aberdeen Lynx charge for Essential Companion tickets?

Until the 2024/25 season, free Essential Companion tickets were only available for supporters using our wheelchair-accessible spaces. During the 2025/26 season, the scheme was expanded to all seating areas, with free Essential Companion tickets offered in limited numbers.

After seeking guidance from Nimbus Disability, we reviewed the scheme for the 2026/27 season. Eligible supporters can now purchase heavily discounted Essential Companion tickets with both season tickets and individual game night tickets. The scheme is no longer limited by the number of tickets available, with eligibility determined through an Access Card or Aberdeen Lynx Digital Access Pass.

As a registered charity run entirely by volunteers, this approach allows us to make the Essential Companion scheme available to more supporters while ensuring it remains financially sustainable and supports the long-term future of the club.
