At Aberdeen Lynx, we take immense pride in the development of our young players and their opportunities to represent their country. When Scottish Ice Hockey launched an initiative this year to help juniors selected for national teams with travel costs, we were determined to go above and beyond.
The governing body offered to match any £200 raised by a player. We responded with our own “Match 200″ campaign, putting our junior national team members through their paces in an entertaining exhibition against our senior squad and other ice competitions. Fans flocked to back our rising stars through a JustGiving page and raffle for coveted Lynx memorabilia.
The overwhelming support allowed us to raise over £2,000! Our tremendous main sponsor Fowler McKenzie also stepped up with a generous donation targeted specifically at helping these youngsters’ dreams come true. Between the fundraising success and club contributions, every single penny of travel costs for our junior national team players was covered.
But we didn’t stop there. The Lynx also ensured each Lynx player who was selected for the national team had their full kit and tracksuits paid for by the club. With expenses covered across the board, our juniors could simply focus on the honor of representing Scotland without any financial worries weighing them down.
The fundraising efforts proved so successful that we were left with £500 remaining after settling all our juniors’ travel costs. In keeping with the spirit of supporting the growth of Scottish ice hockey, we donated that remainder directly to Scottish Ice Hockey to help the young national team players from other clubs.
We cannot thank our incredible fans, sponsors like Fowler McKenzie, and the entire community enough for their support. Rallying around our elite young talent and fostering their development is a passion and priority for everyone associated with the Aberdeen Lynx organisation. We have no doubt these juniors will make the club and country proud while inspiring more local players to dream big.
