We are thrilled to announce that seven of our talented junior players have earned the honor of representing Scotland on the international stage in ice hockey. This is a testament to their dedication, skill, and passion for the sport.
The selection process for our players has been nothing short of rigorous, involving frequent trips to Dumfries for training and selection. Playing ice hockey in Scotland demands a considerable commitment of both time and money, and the additional challenge of over a 400-mile round trip for training only amplifies this commitment.
In April, our players will be heading to Bratislava for training and a tournament, with the 11s and 13s teams, followed by another trip in June for the 15s and 17s teams. These international competitions provide our players with invaluable experience, exposure, and the chance to showcase their skills on a broader stage.
Additionally, one of our athletes has been chosen to represent England girls. In addition to her participation in the Lynx U12s, she has engaged in a two-way involvement with Whitley U16s girls while undergoing training and the selection process for both England and Scotland. Within our junior teams, several girls are actively participating, contributing to the positive growth of women’s hockey in our nation and inspiring more girls to embrace the sport.
To help ease the financial strain on our players and their families, Scottish Ice Hockey has introduced a commendable initiative. They have pledged to match a £200 subsidy if the player or the club manages to raise an additional £200. This is where we need your support!
Our first goal is to raise £1600 to ensure that our players can participate in these tournaments without worrying about financial constraints. We then want to raise as much as possible as costs are significant and funds raised above our target will be directed towards supporting the entire Scotland team, benefitting all participants.
To thank you for your support, we are offering an exciting incentive. For every £5 donated, you will be entered into a raffle with the chance to win some one off Aberdeen Lynx SNL prizes. We have a stick used by Callum Smith from last season, signed by the league-winning team, and a current season Lynx jersey signed by this year’s team. Please make sure you provide your name along with your donation to be entered into it.
