Lynx back to Winning Form

The Lynx made the long trip to Dumfries hoping to bounce back from a disappointing result in Paisley last week. With a few players missing through work, suspensions and other commitments the Lynx travelled with a compact squad, however, the reunion of the Leyden, Malcolm and Laing line for the first time in the league this season made a noticeable impact with the trio amassing an impressive 13 points between them in a dominating performance by the Lynx who came home with a 11-3 win.

Just inside 5 minutes the Lynx took the lead with a fantastic well worked goal finished by #15 Iain Malcolm set up by #8 Jordan Leyden and #19 Mark Laing.

Within a minute #11 Fraser MacEchran made it 2-0 continuing his good form hitting a powerful wrist shot top shelf after being released by a pass from #5 Aarron Thomson and #23 Elliot Willets with the second assist.

Goal of the period was a rocket from the face off circle by Malcolm getting his second of the night, when he latched in to a Leyden pass to break through three players and send a wrist shot ringing off the back of the goal with 12.47 on the clock.

4 minutes In to the second #71 Jack Flynn slotted past the Dumfries net minder #31 Carmichael to make it 4-0.

5 minutes later Laing set up Leyden to make it 5-0 and within seconds of the restart  Leyden again set up a Malcolm to make it 6-0 and a hat trick for the Lynx #15.

They were moving the puck well and creating lots of quality chances. However, one slack pass was costly with Stingrays #18 Luke Houston intercepting and the resulting breakaway led to him beating #35 Chalmers with a nice move and getting the Stingrays on the scoresheet to make it 6-1.

However, the Stingrays celebrations were short lived when, within 25 seconds of the restart, Man of the Match #6 Craig Findlay made it 7-1 with a powerful slapshot from the point.

Findlay was also instrumental in the next Lynx goal goal when short handed he released Malcolm up the right wing who, with a perfectly waited pass found Leyden in front of goal who, and with a superb move slotted it passed Carmichael to end the period 8-1.

4 minutes in to the third period the Lynx were on the scoresheet again, when #79 Andrew Murphy combined with Leyden and Flynn to make it 9-1.

Right off the restart #6 Ruairi Lockerbie pulled another one back for the Stingrays to make it 9-2. The Lynx were soon back on scoresheet when Laing got on the end of a pass from Fndlay to make it 10-2.

Stingrays #8 Gordon Horne got another for the home side before Flynn scored again on the Power Play for the Lynx to end the match 11-3.

The small but vocal (and much appreciated) band of Lynx supporters who made the long trip to Dumfries were rewarded with an entertaining match.

This was a comprehensive victory, a good win and positive team performance for the Lynx. Despite having a cohort of players missing the quality and depth of talent the squad this year is apparent. Coach Reynolds had his team well organised and up for the task. All the players worked hard tonight, the puck management and movement was very good creating a lot of good hockey to watch and quality scoring chances.
