The RAF Lossiemouth Jets travelled south to face off against the Aberdeen Predators this past Saturday at the Linx Ice Arena. This wasn’t just any game; it was a charity match dedicated to raising funds for the Archie Foundation, and it successfully raised over £12,875.
The inspiration behind this charity game was Lucy Stewart, the 13-year-old daughter of Barry Stewart, a player for the Jets. Lucy was born with a rare condition known as Tracheo-oesophageal Fistula and Oesophageal Atresia. This condition required Lucy to undergo a significant operation when she was just one day old. Throughout her life, Lucy has battled numerous health challenges, from a floppy windpipe that occasionally caused her to stop breathing, to chronic lung damage and complications with her food pipe and bowel.
The Archie Foundation is a key provider of vital support to families across the North of Scotland and has been a huge support for Lucy and her family over the past decade. They have provided play staff, entertainers, accommodation, and a comforting environment during Lucy’s multiple stays in Elgin and the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.
Aberdeen Lynx, no stranger to hosting big games was invited to join the cause by contributing some of their past and present players to both the Predators and Jets helping raise the profile of the event.
Aberdeen Lynx Ice Hockey Team, RAF Lossiemouth Jets, and Aberdeen Predators – united in their efforts to offer a night filled with entertainment, sportsmanship, and charity pulled out all the stops to make it an evening to remember.
Chairman for the Aberdeen Lynx and Scottish Ice Hockey, John Colley said, “It was a fantastic event which really showcased our sports ability to collaborate together and use its platform for the benefit of the wider community. The Lynx organisation is proud to have been a part of the event and delighted with the money raised. Lucy is a courageous young lady who clearly doesn’t let anything get in her way when it comes to living life to the full and without doubt she inspired every person in the rink on Saturday.”
The success of the event was made possible by the collective efforts of players, sponsors, volunteers, and the 100s of fans who came to support the cause. This event stands as a testament to the power of community and the positive impact that can be achieved when we come together.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved and look forward to more such collaborative efforts in the future.
