We are delighted to announce that we have chosen Friends of ANCHOR as our official charity partner.

The partnership will span the next two years and we look forward to working with them to help raise much needed funds and to support the fantastic work they do that benefits so many in Aberdeen and the North East of Scotland.

Established in 1997 Friends of ANCHOR serves oncology and haematology patients in the North East of Scotland, including Orkney and Shetland. The charity is run by a small team and provides the best possible treatment, care and support to patients.

The charity has three main focuses;

  • Research – Friends of ANCHOR funds local, leading research to push the boundaries in the fight against cancer. This is done at both Robert Gordon University and The University of Aberdeen.
  • Equipment – Friends of ANCHOR invests in the latest technology to continually develop and improve cancer diagnosis and treatment.
  • Wellbeing – Friends of ANCHOR go above and beyond; offering additional care, comfort and support to patients during their time at the ANCHOR unit.

In the last five years alone, Friends of ANCHOR have invested £4m directly into research, equipment and wellbeing within the Foresterhill Health Campus. From this year, Friends of ANCHOR is also fundraising £2m through our ANCHORED Together appeal for The ANCHOR Centre, set to open in 2021.

Their ambitious fundraising target is over and above the £32m project cost and will equip the building with a dedicated research suite and teaching facility, top-of-the-range fixtures and equipment, as well as new additions such as complementary therapy room, a teenage and young adult room, patient information space and a coffee lounge area.
