Aberdeen Lynx are proud to unveil the Lynx Edge Academy, an intensive 8-week training program created to elevate players’ skills through small-group coaching sessions. Designed as an extension of the club’s well-established junior development program, the Lynx Edge Academy offers players an opportunity to make targeted improvements in essential areas crucial to on-ice success.
Operating in dedicated 8-week 1 hour blocks, the Lynx Edge Academy will hold early morning sessions on Mondays, with ice time from 6am to 8am. These sessions focus on advanced skill development, guided by a highly experienced coaching team:
- Melanie Bruce: A professional figure and hockey fundamentals skating coach and former Olympic athlete, who will guide players in refining their skating mechanics and edge control for improved mobility and stability.
- Jordan Leyden: IIHF Level 2 Coach, Aberdeen Lynx SNL Head Coach, and a back-to-back League and Scottish Cup champion, who brings expertise in shooting, passing precision, and competitive mindset, helping players to enhance their scoring potential and game sense.
- Owen Reynolds: IIHF Level 2 Coach, Aberdeen Lynx Head of Junior Development, and Scotland National Development Coach, known for his focus on puck skills, creativity, and functional intelligence, ensuring a comprehensive approach to player growth.
Each 8-week block will target fundamental hockey skills, including:
- Skating Mechanics and Edge Control for balance and speed
- Shot Power & Accuracy to increase scoring ability
- Passing Precision to enhance on-ice communication
- Puck Skills & Creativity for adaptable, dynamic play
- Compete Level to boost resilience and intensity
- Functional Intelligence and Hockey Sense for effective decision-making
Through this structured approach, the Lynx Edge Academy supports players in developing confidence, resilience, and skill mastery each week. Every 8-week block ensures players make measurable progress toward reaching their full potential on the ice.
